With the wedding season winding down here in New Zealand, I really wanted to have some fun with Susanna & Kryspin’s wedding. I always love to shoot the getting ready stages in the morning. It’s my favourite part of the day as the girls are generally relaxed and enjoying getting beautiful. It also gives me plenty of time to get some great creative shots. Susanna and her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done at Is Bliss, who worked their magic and did a fantastic job!

After a short break, we headed off to do some pre-ceremony shots (which I also love BTW). We headed down to Island Bay then got some great shots in Happy Valley. The ceremony and reception were at Wilton House, which is a stunning venue in the Wilton Bush. It was the perfect day for an outdoor ceremony in their beautiful garden.

It was such a great day, and I had a lot of fun with Susanna, Kryspin, and all their friends and family. Thank you for allowing me to share your day with you!

Jamie & Helen

Jamie and Helen are one of those couples with a really cool story about getting together in high-school, going their separate ways, then finding each other again a few years later. As Jamie is my brother, I was super-stoked to have the privilege of shooting their engagement session after they announced their engagement.

They were so easy to photograph, and we had a lot of fun doing it. We did half of the photos by the river in Lower Hutt, and the other half on a family weekend up in Tokaanu, which is at the south end of Lake Taupo. They love to laugh and smile, and are all over each other, making for some great images.

Congratulations on your engagement, Jamie and Helen. Thanks for letting me celebrate it with you!

Wellington School Ball Expo 2010

The very first Wellington School Ball Expo was held at the Overseas Terminal Function Centre a couple of weeks ago. It was a stunning day, and there were a great collection of exhibitors showing off their products and services to the high-school students, school ball committees, teachers, and parents that are planning and attending their 2010 school balls.

There was everything from shoes to stationery, flowers to dresses, photographers, stretch hummers, bands, performers, hair and makeup artists, even dancing girls on platforms! I was particularly impressed with the decorative details by Paula Bevege at the Belle Vie booth!

Justine & Rowan

Justine and Rowan are one of those interesting couples you meet sometimes that surprise you. I’m not sure quite what I was expecting when I first met them, but whatever it was, it wasn’t the crazy couple that I spent the evening photographing! They both have so much personality and quirkiness that they made the whole shoot really relaxed and fun. Countless shots were ruined due to one or both of them cracking up or making stupid faces!

We met for a coffee at my local (fantastic) Elements Cafe before heading down to Lyall Bay for some shots of Justine and Rowan on the little boardwalk jetty, walking down the beach, and trying to find shelter from the southerly in the sand dunes. When the sun got low enough, we headed around the coast a little to Island Bay for some sunset shots.

As a side-note, after we finished up, my beautiful assistant and I headed into Island Bay shops looking for food and discovered The Cheeky Pipi. The pasta and the seafood chowder was INCREDIBLE! We managed to avoid the rowdy drunken teachers who were dancing out the back, fortunately. Check them out if you’re in Island Bay foraging for food.

Justine & Rowan’s Engagement – Sneak Peek

Here’s a shot from Justine and Rowan’s e-session this week. I’ve used a photographic technique that has become known as the ‘Brenizer Method’, being invented by New York wedding photog Ryan Brenizer. It blends a bunch of images (six in this shot) to create a very unique look with a very small depth of field that would otherwise be impossible. I hope you like it. More to come soon.
